About · Our team
Designers who can use a chisel and makers who can read a floor plan. Small enough that you will know everyone by name.
Where we came from
Hartwood began with weekend commissions for friends: a bookcase here, a table there. Each one led to two more, until the evenings in a rented lock-up became a full-time workshop.
We have grown carefully since. We still work in small batches, still choose every board by eye, and the person who first visits your home stays with your project until the last hinge is adjusted.
The team
Founder & master cabinetmaker
Trained in traditional furniture making and still happiest cutting dovetails by hand.
Lead designer
Turns rough ideas and awkward rooms into drawings that just make sense.
Workshop manager
Keeps every project on schedule and every finish flawless before it leaves.
Head of installation
Leads our fitting crew and treats your home with the care she expects in her own.
What we stand for
i.
An extra hour at the bench costs far less than a callback in five years.
ii.
Great design comes from how you actually live, not from a brochure.
iii.
Fixed, itemised prices and realistic timings, agreed before work begins.
iv.
Dust sheets down, tidy every evening, and a clean room on handover day.
“Furniture should be passed down, not thrown out. If our work is still loved in fifty years, we have done our job.”
Oliver Hart, founder
